Landslagsuppdatering
Phil Jones - England: Spelade hela matchen mot Sverige där han fick lira på det centrala mittfältet. Stod för en stabil insats och var väldigt nära att bli målskytt, avslutet strax utanför, dock. Ska noteras att Welbeck skadade sig före avspark och kunde därför inte medverka.
Nani - Portugal: Imponerade mot Bosnien i en match som slutade 6-2. Målskytt med ett fantastiskt skott förbi en chanslös Begovic. Nani kommer i och med Portugals seger spela EM nästa sommar.
Darron Gibson - Irland: Medverkade inte men Irland spelade 1-1 mot Estland vilket räckte för avancemang.
Anders Lindegaard - Danmark: Fick släppa en boll förbi sig när Danmark vände 0-1 till 2-1 mot Finland.
David de Gea - Spanien U-21: Höll nollan mot Schweiz i en match som slutade 3-0.
Englands tränare Fabio Capello om Jones insats: "I changed the system. It was important to see Jones in the position where (Scott) Parker usually plays. It's different to the back four. He played really well."
Nani om sitt mål: "No doubt it was my best goal in the national team, there are no words to describe it. It was an excellent shot, a great goal."
Paul Scholes fyller 37
Paul Scholes, som i våras la skorna på hyllan efter en fantastisk karriär i Manchester United, fyller idag 37 år. Stort grattis till en av klubbens största spelare genom alla tider, och en sann förebild!
United kommer inte överklaga Vidics avstängning
Förra månaden blev Nemanja Vidic utvisad efter en vårdslös tackling borta mot Otelul Galati, ett direkt rött som innebar två matchers avstängning. Manchester United kommer alltså INTE överklaga domen, och får nu klara sig utan sin lagkapten när Benfica gästar nästa vecka.
Nicky Butt satsar på tränarkarriär
F.d. United-mittfältaren Nicky Butt, 36, lämnade South China i maj och återvände till England. Han är idag fast besluten att få en utbildning i Carrington, för att så småningom träna ett lag.
"I've started my badges now and am getting the hours in. I'll get assessed in the next five or six months. I go to Carrington a lot and just watch, I don't really take any of the sessions. I watch what the coaches are doing and how they speak to the kids. Ask any player and the knowledge is in their head. The difficult part is getting the point across and doing it clearly. That is what I've got to learn.
I've been fortunate to play for a lot of coaches who are great at projecting their voice and getting the point across. Steve McClaren, Carlos Queiroz, Brian Kidd and Eric Harrison... all were great coaches. I know for a fact management is what I want to do. Whether I'll be good at it is another thing. We'll see. There were rumours about Oldham [in summer 2010] and someone asked if I would be interested but I never was as it was too soon for me. I wanted to have a year away from it, spend time with my family and go away with the kids in the school holidays. It's been great but I think I feel now I'm ready to do something.
The thing is you don't know what you want to be until you try it. After I quit football, I thought I'd try TV but I didn't like it. If I didn't try it, I would never have known. Gary Neville, I felt, was obviously certain to go straight into management but instead he's working as a pundit on Sky Sports and he's got a three-year deal there. So you never know what's around the corner for you. You've got to be prepared to get as much as knowledge as you can, with football or whatever it is you want to do, and see what comes of it.
I'm still doing some of the ambassador work for United, going to places all around the world with the club's commercial partners. I'm also working for MUTV, spending a lot of time with my family and learning to ski - I was not able to do that before when I was a player. There are a lot of things I'm able to do now but my ultimate aim is to be a manager. That's what I want to do, whenever that happens, but I don't want to just jump into a job, take it on and not be able to do it. I want to slowly get there and be ready for it."
Suarez åtalas av FA
FA har meddelat att Luis Suarez nu blir åtalad för incidenten som skedde med Patrice Evra den 15 oktober 2011. Uruguayanen ska ha använt ett racistiskt ord mot Evra när Liverpool och Manchester United spelade 1-1 på Anfield för drygt en månad sedan.
FAs uttalande: "The FA has today charged Liverpool's Luis Suarez following an incident that occurred during the Liverpool versus Manchester United fixture at Anfield on 15 October 2011. It is alleged that Suarez used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra contrary to FA rules. It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Patrice Evra. The FA will issue no further comment at this time."
Liverpools svar: "We will discuss the matter fully with him (Suarez) when he returns from international duty, but he will plead not guilty and we expect him to request a personal hearing."
United värvar 5-åring
Manchester United har värvat Charlie Jackson, 5, som nu tränar i ungdomsakademin. Jackson "scoutades" redan när han var 3 år gammal, och ska tydligen vara väldigt lovande.
Pappa Andy hade detta att säga om sin son: “His idols are Joe Hart and Mario Balotelli and at first he was mortified that he was having to train with United, but he seems to be getting over that bit now. He loves it.
It’s an amazing opportunity. Everywhere we go people notice him because of his football talent. People just stand and watch him. They can’t believe he’s only five because he’s so good. There’s no pressure, but it would be nice if he plays for City one day.”
