The living legend

Hej! Här kommer fortsättningen av vår intervju men Stoke legend Nigel Johnson.

21. Can you enjoy a good game, like the normal fan or is it when you come down to it work?
As a fan I watch the game differently to if I'm working

22. When watching a game on TV, are you watching the game or checking the commentator?
I end up doing both!

23. What are the important things to think about when commentating?
Where is the ball?

24. Is it difficult being neutral when commentating Stoke City for Stoke fans?
Yes on occasions!

25. Have any players/managers resented any of your comments made by you on them? Yes Joe Jordan used to bristle!

26. Did it feel strange working at the Britannia after so many years at the Victoria Ground?
The view at the Britannia is far better...

27. Have you ever commentated any Port Vale matches (apart from the derbies)?
Yes from 1980-1984

28. How do their fans treat you?
No problems

29. Do people sometimes think you are actually employed by the club and not Radio Stoke?
I'm sure people aren't sure at times...

30. Do you have any contact with old players/managers; have you become friends with any?
Old players and managers yes in particular Lou Macari, Nigel Gleghorn and Denis Smith, Terry Conroy and Jackie Marsh as well as the late Sir Stanley Matthews

31. Is it difficult to interview a manager after a bad result?
Yes it is, very much so

32. Which manager has been easy to interview and dare we ask who has been the most difficult?
Lou Macari...and Joe Jordan

33. How did you find Boskamp and his English?
Not easy to deal with but we had some ammusing incidents

34. Of course a question we can’t avoid, have their been any embarrassing moments on the air?
Yes like forgetting about a goalkeeping substitution in the 90s, and I kept talking about Carl Muggleton when it was in fact Ronnie Sinclair

35. Who in your opinion have been the greatest players to play for Stoke City?
Sir Stanley Matthews, Neil Franklin, Freddie Steele, Jimmy Greenhoff, Denis Violett, Denis Smith and Gordon Banks

36. Which has been the best game/games you have commentated on?
It really is very difficult to choose just one game

37. What was the finest goal you have commentated on?
Too many to mention

38. Is the game in a better state now than when you started or has it deteriorated?
There is not enough respect for officials

39. With Stoke doing well, do you think they will go up and can they survive in the Premier League?
They are stuttering at the moment so we will have to keep our fingers crossed

41. A personal question from me (Nick) is; as Jimmy Greenhoff was my hero as a boy, (the man cried and not of happiness when told Man U. wanted to buy him and Stoke were prepared to release him) do you know how he is and what is he doing nowadays? He's doing some corporate hospitality at Manchester United and the odd radio broadcast

42. And finally Nigel, what can you tell us about Sweden?
Stockholm is the capital. Is that enough?!

Både jag och Håkan vill tacka Nigel (och Radio Stoke) att han/de tog tid att svara våra frågor. Förhoppningsvis vill han fortsätta att kommentera Stoke City matcher framöver och förhoppningsvis från PL arenor.
