Nedan är tre exempel, The Guardian (G), BBC och The Sun (S):

JOHN TERRY
G: 6/10
Made a bright start on his full England debut, but struggled at times. The only England player to stay on the pitch for the full 90 minutes and will certainly have benefitted from the experience although will need to build a better understanding with Ferdinand if they are to play together again
BBC: 6/10
Showcased his strengths - speed and tackling ability - but like Ferdindand should have done better at set-pieces and his reading of the game was sometimes poor.
S: 5/10
Starting first game for England, made some vital covering tackles. Let down by his pace and poor positioning. Needed more guidance from colleagues.

FRANK LAMPARD (in för N Butt)
G: 7/10
Capped a decent display with a brilliant long-range goal which no keeper could have stopped. Close to a second.
BBC: 7/10
Initially struggled with Croatia controlling the midfield, but kept at it and scored the pick of the game's goals with a superb long-range strike.
S: 7/10
Fine performance, fine goal .

WAYNE BRIDGE (in för A Cole)
G: 6/10
Got forward twice to decent effect, including for the third goal.
BBC: 6/10
Gave England better shape on the left as well as sending over a couple of dangerous crosses.
S: 6/10
Pushing for starting role now

JOE COLE (in för P Scholes)
G: 7/10
Busy, bright performance, including a good run and shot just wide.
BBC: 7/10
One of England's more impressive substitutes, Cole caused Croatia problems by running with the ball as well as despatching low shot on 65 minutes that drifted narrowly wide.
S: 6/10
Made things happen.
