Framför allt John Terrys och Claude Makeleles insatser uppmärksammades. Didier Drogba sågas däremot. Nedan följer betyg och kommentarer från BBC (B) och The Guardian (G).
Petr Cech
G: 6, Might have been dismissed for dragging down Baros in the build-up to the fourth-minute goal and was prone as Garcia scored.
B: 6, Found himself in no man's land for the Liverpool goal and had little else to do.
Geremi
G: 4, Uncomfortable and occasionally exposed as a makeshift right-back, and was at his happiest charging down the flank.
B: 6, A solid performance, he tried to get forward as often as possible but was let down by lack of support.
Ricardo Carvalho
G: 7, Used his pace expertly against Baros's charges, classily shadowing the Czech. A threat when galloping from deep.
B: 5, A nervy performance from the usually cool Portuguese, made some rash tackles and was not accurate with his passing either.
John Terry
G: 8, An inspirational and overpowering presence, though occasionally unsettled by Baros's snapping presence.
B: 7, Not much defending to do but was the catalyst for a host of attacks and was a steady presence.
William Gallas
G: 5, Failed to scramble Garcia's attempt from the goal-line and struggled to scuttle upfield in support until the second period.
B: 6, Did more attacking than defending as the Blues piled forward, but a left-winger he is not and struggled with his crossing.
Tiago
G: 5, A rabbit in the headlights early on, stunned by the red shirts pouring at him, though he offered more poise later on.
B: 5, Got into some good positions going forward but looked tired as the match progressed.
Eidur Gudjohnsen
G: 5, Early on, denied by Hamann's fine tackle, and too peripheral for his liking. At his best when charging at pace from deep.
B: 7, Was at the hub of all of Chelsea's attacking momentum, his movement and touch were terrific and a last-gasp shot whistled wide.
Claude Makelele
G: 8, As busy as ever, though when crowded out in the early exchanges Chelsea wilted. Kept the visitors ticking.
B: 7, Kept the ball moving quickly from side to side and never stopped probing for an equaliser.
Frank Lampard
G: 7, His passing was uncharacteristically awry at first, though his influence grew as Chelsea monopolised possession.
B: 6, Quieter than usual, one stinging free-kick went close but could not find a way through.
Joe Cole
G: 7, Buzzed with menace, though Finnan proved an awkward opponent. Beaten by the angle from Lampard's pass.
B: 5, Looked out of sorts on the left-hand side, lacking his usual spark of recent months.
Didier Drogba
G: 4, Snuffed out by Carragher in the air and, invariably, by Hamann on the turf. A tame free-kick was as good as it got.
B: 4, Started poorly, his touch let him down on a regular basis and it never looked like the goal Chelsea needed would come from him..

Mateja Kezman (Tiago, 68 min) *
B: 5, His touch was as bad as Drogba's, never looked like being the answer.
Arjen Robben (Cole, 68 min) *
B: 6, Immediately provided another headache and went close twice in a minute but is nowhere near match fit.
Robert Huth (Geremi, 76 min) *
B: 5, Another Champions League semi-final, another substitution involving Huth that failed to work.

Ris och ros från tidningarna
På nytt var det Liverpools Jamie Carragher som gjorde fotbollsrecensenterna mest euforiska, men några Chelseaspelare fick också höga betyg.
