Dagens Arsenal - 17 Mars 2009
En kortare Dagens Arsenal då jag har det lite stressigt och håller på och flyttar. Om några luckor uppstår i rapporteringen framöver så vet ni nu vad det beror på!
Wenger
Fransmannen talar till att börja med om hans personliga strävan att spela hem en pokal efter flera år utan några titlar. Wenger ser därför fram emot kvällens match mot Hull, som är nästa steg mot att vinna FA-cupen: "With everybody coming back, we can cope with that. Of course there is a burning desire to win a trophy and if we focus on our performances then we can create something special. If we are consistent we will be ahead of Villa at the end of the season. We have the experience to cope with pressure and that helps.” Sedan talar Wenger också om Andrei Arshavin och om ryssen är aktuell för spel under kvällen: "Arshavin had eight stitches in his foot but he is still in the squad. We will make a decision today. He is desperate to be involved. He just wants to play. He couldn't practice today but we'll assess him in the morning."
Rörande kontraktsförhandlingarna så berättar Wenger att Arsenal-fansens favorit, Emmanuel Eboué och klubben har kommit överens om ett nytt kontrakt: "We have already tied up Eboue's contract - that has been done for a long time. I am pleased that Eboue starts to score because it looked to us that he could never score goals.”
Slutligen så prisar Wenger Theo Walcott som nu entligen kommit tillbaka från sin axelskada och börjat leverera: "He made a very good start and he became stronger and stronger. He gives us something that is important as well when we play at home. He goes behind the defenders and creates room and he has a direct game. We need that, especially at home. It is important to have him back and he gives you something that can make a difference in any game."
Spelarna
Vår skadade lagkapten Cesc Fabregas talar om matchen mot Roma och om det nervösa straffavgörandet som skickade Arsenal till kvartsfinal: “I watched the game at Tomas Rosicky’s house, and I was nervous like you wouldn’t believe for the penalties. I’ve never had to watch my team take penalties before, without being involved. Now I understand how the fans must feel at those moments. I’ve been in a few penalty shoot-outs and when you are there you don’t really get nervous, because you are focused on the game. Watching it on TV though, it’s unbelievable."
Den unge mexikanen Carlos Vela berättar att han inte har någon avsikt att lånas ut för att få mer speltid. Den talangfulla anfallaren berättar också om hur det går för honom med acklimatiseringen till kulturen i England: "Playing for one of the best teams in the world is huge. We are involved in many competitions, including the Champions League, and it’s fantastic to be part of this squad for a youngster like me. I’m very satisfied with my first season because I play more and more and earn confidence every time I’m given the chance to show myself. At the moment my plan is imposing myself at Arsenal and breaking into the starting line-up.”
Eduardo da Silva är inte så bekymrad över de småskador som kroaten nu dragit på sig under senaste tiden. Anfallaren tror att problemet i mångt och mycket har varit att han inte haft en ordentlig försäsong: "Really, it's nothing now for me to deal with these small injuries like hamstring and groin strains - I can understand them. I have plenty of experience of this now, having been out for so long, and I think I am experiencing these little problems because I didn't have a pre-season.But I'm calm about it and I'm feeling better with every day and every training session."
Skadeläget
Som ett brev på posten blev nu Tomas Rosicky återigen skadad efter att Tjecken intensifierat sin träning. Tjecken räknas nu vara borta till och med mitten av april. Wenger om Tjeckens skadeläge: "We have to be more patient than in the start. I told you two weeks ago that he would be back in full training but he will not. He'll be back in full training in two weeks time now."
Emmanuel Adebayor och Cesc Fabregas räknas fortfarande vara borta tills matchen mot Manchester City på The Emirates.
