Angel och Alpay regerar på försäsongen
David O'Leary är imponerad, mycket imponerad!
I en artikel i "Express and Star" skriven av Martin Swain öser DOL beröm över de båda spelarna:
"Juan Pablo Angel and Alpay spent much of last seen on the sidelines and with their Villa careers heading for an ignominous finish.
But the departure of Graham Taylor and the arrival of the former Leeds manager has dramatically re-written the script for the Colombian and the Turk. And O'Leary has been hugely impressed by what he has seen from the pair in the first week of training.
"They have been fantastic," said O'Leary. "Whatever has gone on before is past and forgotten now. All I know is what I see and I can have no complaints about either of them so far.
"Juan Pablo has been a pleasure to work with and his attitude has been absolutely first class. He looks sharp and hungry and ready for it. I was told he could barely speak any English when he first arrived but that's not the guy I am working with now. His English is first class and looks settled.
"I am excited about working with Alpay. Because of Turkey's international commitments, Alpay has only been back a few days - but what an athlete.
"We want to play a very high-tempo attacking game this season and all the early signs are that these two can play a big part in that."
Även assisterande manager Roy Aitken är imponerad:
"Angel is on the front foot and looking a tremendous player," says Aitken. "We've all been impressed with him. You can see the boy can play - and that he can score goals.
"Alpay, too, is showing up well. I know he has his problems with the supporters to get over but I always believe fans across the world are the same. They demande that you put in 100 per cent for the team and as long as he does that, I don't think he will have any problems with them."
Dessa utalanden kommer mycket lägligt eftersom Villa inte har gjort något väsen av sig på transfermarknaden. Men ni som såg dessa spelare för några år sedan vet vilken kapacitet de besitter och om DOL lyckas få med båda två är enormt mycket vunnet. Både anfall och försvar ser bra ut.
