Walsall - Aston Villa 2-1

Just my perspective on the Walsall game.
We started off mediocore, had a sprited 10 minutes after half-time and then the wheels fell off! We created very little all through the game and I appreciate it was a hot
day but that didn't affect Walsall too much!
Merson was outstanding! He played about 70 minutes.
This is how we should have used him (sparingly),but he wanted to be automatic choice, and play every game. Anyway him and Vinny Samways ran the game for me yesterday and I think Walsall will have a good season this year.
Olof and Alpay had good games. Expect some movement on the goalkeeping front come monday morning, as Postma played the full match and was a little suspect in his performance.
Finally we had Lee Hendrie playing who blew a fuse again after being criticised over his performance by the fans, and he started shouting abuse back and kicked the ball back at the fans in the stand. Dion ordered him over to the other side of the pitch to calm him down. This was near the end of the game and frustration set in with one or two of the other players as well as bad challengers went in and two players were booked.
Finally as an aside. Ian Taylor was at the game sitting in the stand with the Fans. He like Merson took a lot of Applause, and at halftime the Villa Subs (Dion,Hadji,Johnsen and Davis) who were
warming up on the pitch all went over and bowed down to him as a gester of affection and respect.
Villa XI won 4:1 at Tamworth with
Staunton,Crouch,Kinsella,Kachloul and De La Cruz
playing.
