As I was born in the 90s, I cannot remember the 80s away support. However, wouldn’t you love to re-live those days when thousands of the Chelsea faithful travelled up north to see match after match?
Alongside the currently very successful “Return to the Shed” campaign, there is a new initiative (albeit in its early stages) which is trying to encourage more people to go to away games, especially up north.
We’re not talking about your Liverpools or Man Utds, we’re talking about the more undesirable clubs!
Wigan away (3rd November) has been pinpointed to start this campaign and we are trying to get as many people to make the effort to come to this game.
It’ll be a great day out if we all make the effort and the atmosphere will be second to none.
Here are the reasons why we have chosen this game:
1) It is a Saturday 3 o’clock kick off – finally Sky TV haven’t changed kick off times to suit themselves rather than the proper football supporters.
2) Tickets should be cheap – last year it was £15 a pop, and this year it should be nearly as cheap – Wigan is the “best value” club in the Premier League.
3) The allocation is amongst the biggest – if we take full allocation it could be as much as 5,000!
4) Tickets should be easy to come by providing you get them as soon as they come on sale and this campaign doesn’t work against you!
I went to Wigan last season and can certainly say that it is a good away trip if you haven’t been. There are plenty of pubs, the locals are friendly and the transport isn’t too difficult.
So, if you want to relive the 80s, get up to Wigan!
Ticket go on sale as follows;
Monday 8th October – season ticket holders
Monday 15th October – members
