The Rumour Mill

Daniel Crawford ger oss det senaste gällande Finnan, och nu även ryktena om Sean Davis.

Fulham defender Steve Finnan will join Liverpool in the summer for £7.5m after being tapped up by Gerard Houllier. The Republic of Ireland full-back, Fulham’s most consistent performer, will provide the final piece in the Merseyside outfit’s resolute back line. Finnan was signed from Notts County for £500,000 in 1999 and converted into a right-back by the then Fulham manager Kevin Keegan. It is rumoured that Finnan will be one of several stars to leave the club as eight players consider their options with their contracts up at the end of the season. Fulham recently rejected a £7m bid from Arsenal but a deal has been reached with Liverpool and Sportscene understands that Finnan has already undergone an Anfield medical.

Midfielder Sean Davis could be on his way out of the club as well. Davis is the only player to have represented Fulham in all four divisions and is unrecognisable from the fringe player who played under Micky Adams as Fulham reached the Second Division. He was overlooked by a succession of managers, including Ray Wilkins and Kevin Keegan, before Jean Tigana brought him in as his holding midfielder. Davis, who was called up for England’s friendly against Australia at Upton Park in February, will interest both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Sheffield United have admitted they will have to sell their star players if they do not gain promotion to the Premiership this season. Michael Tongue, whose goals came so close to knocking eventual winners Liverpool out of the Worthington Cup, has already attracted interested from Liverpool, Blackburn and Manchester United – but Neil Warnock and his board are said to be holding out for £4m for their young starlet. Tongue’s midfield colleague Michael Brown, who has scored a series of stunning goals this season, could also be set for a Premiership move with Tottenham and Chelsea competing for his signature.
