Lagkamraterna om van Persie
Efter mycket rykten blev Robin van Persie slutligen klar för Manchester United och det är samtidigt något som glädjer flera av hans blivande lagkamrater.
Trots att Ferguson öppet medgav intresset för holländaren, trodde väl inte många att det skulle bli verklighet. Lagkaptenen, ikonen och Arsenals i särklass bästa spelare, skulle han verkligen vara på väg till United? Trots alla tänkbara hinder kom United överens med Arsenal Football Club om övergången, och nu saknas endast läkarundersökningen samt det personliga kontraktet som väntas bli klart inom 24 timmar.
Medspelarna och blivande lagkamraterna har också uttryckt sina glädje över att Robin van Persie ansluter till klubben. Så här säger Rio Ferdinand om transfern:
"It gives the manager so many different options up front. On a weekend, I’m not too sure what other managers will be thinking in terms of how they prepare to play against Manchester United and the attacking options we’ve got. It’s an exciting deal. This summer everyone’s been waiting and looking forward to new players coming through the doors and there can’t be many bigger than Robin van Persie.
He had a great season last year with Arsenal. He scored 37 goals, was their player of the year, their captain. For us to take him and bring him here is fantastic news. I’m sure our fans are jumping for joy.”
Reportrarna bad även om Ferdinands åsikt angående van Persies ålder, prislapp samt det faktum att United sedan tidigare har ett väldigt bra offensivt manskap.
“If you’re buying class then your arms are always open to take somebody like that. His signing is going to enhance the club. When a top player comes into the club it gives the club a real injection. Everybody will get a boost. Players will want to impress him, he’ll want to impress other players... players in the position he’s coming into will think they’ll have to up their game to ensure they play well and stay in the squad.
That sort of competition’s healthy for the squad and for us to grow as a team we need to challenge people. That’s what this will do.”
Michael Carrick är också exalterad över att få holländaren till den röda delen av Manchester och menar på att van Persie kan vara skillnaden mellan första- och andraplats i tabellen.
"He had a terrific season and he will further strengthen our squad. It's a great boost going into the new season. He's a world-class player and we've always been about bringing in players of that ability.
Can it make the difference between second and first? There wasn't much difference so hopefully we can go that step further. If it goes through, it will be brilliant. But the club has always had strength in depth and it is about the squad and not the 11 on the pitch."
