Phil Jones äntligen klar
Phil Jones, 19, blir sommarens första nyförvärv när han ansluter ifrån Blackburn, där han spelat som mittback och defensiv mittfältare. Jones har imponerat i klubblaget och spås en lysande framtid. I Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans & nu Phil Jones har Manchester United en utmärkt framtid inom positionen mittback. Så här lyder det officiella pressmeddelandet från manutd.com:
"Manchester United is delighted to announce it has signed an agreement with Blackburn Rovers for the transfer of Phil Jones. The player passed a medical in Manchester last week and has agreed a 5-year contract. The deal will be completed once the player returns from international duty."
Paul Scholes om beslutet att lägga skorna på hyllan
Manchester United-legendaren Paul Scholes har, som de flesta redan vet, beslutat sig för att lägga skorna på hyllan, efter en 17 år lång karriär med A-laget. ”Scholesy” kommer att avtackas för sina tjänster när United tar emot New York Cosmos den 5:e augusti på Old Trafford, en match som även ser till att Eric Cantona, ”The King”, återvänder till the Theatre of Dreams. Paul Scholes om sitt livs svåraste beslut:
“It’s something I’m still getting used to, but I knew it was the right time. There were a few games last season where I didn’t feel great, and in training as well. I thought it was probably the right time to do it and I stand by that now. You can’t go on forever, it’s all done now and I’m looking towards the future.
I don’t think anybody wants to play a bit-part, but I’d realised that's just part and parcel of it, given the stage of my career and the way I was physically. You’re at a top club with the best players and you just have to realise your legs can’t do what you want them to do.
If you are going to be a part of this club you have to be available from the beginning and to be able to last 90 minutes. When I was starting games I didn't feel great. I didn’t mind playing the odd game or coming on at the end of games - it was probably the right way to use me. The best I felt was when I was playing the last 15 or 20 minutes and really that's not right."
Welbeck nätade när England kryssade
Det engelska U-21 landslaget och Spaniens dito drabbade samman igår (söndag) kväll i en match som slutade 1-1. Danny Welbeck kvitterade i den 88’ matchminuten när han från en tveksam offsideposition snyggt tog emot bollen, vände, och snyggt nätade med vänsterfoten. Danny stod överlag för en imponerande insats. Den som imponerade mest var dock Chris Smalling, som var en jätte i försvaret. Även nyförvärvet Phil Jones stod för en stabil insats. Sämre gick det, hur som helst, för Tom Cleverley, som inte lyckades med särskilt mycket.
England möter Ukraina på onsdag. Welbeck & Smalling om matchen:
Welbeck: "We stayed patient, we pressed as a team, and we got out towards the end and got a goal. The key is to get straight behind the ball and travel across the pitch in terms of which way the ball goes, and just keep patient, and when the time is right to go and press them and hit them on the counter attack. In the first half Spain took over in terms of possession but I think in the second half we came back a bit, we got the ball and created a few chances."
Smalling: "That togetherness has been here for the whole campaign. We never gave up and we really got stronger as the game went on. We felt we had the legs when it came to the last 20 minutes and it showed. It's disappointing to concede from a set piece. We'll have a look at that and make sure it doesn't happen again."

Javier Hernandez hade gjort 5 mål på sina 2 senaste matcher för sitt landslag, men igår kväll (söndag) kom han inte med I målprotokollet när Mexiko slog Costa Rica med klara 4-1.
