David De Gea inom kort en röd djävul
I måndags sågs 20 årige David De Gea i Manchester, utanför Bridgewater Hospital (trots ett skrattretande försök att dölja detta), och spanjoren ska ha klarat en läkarundersökning, vilket betyder att han inom kort kommer att presenteras som sommarens tredje nyförvärv. United får hosta upp £18,3 miljoner för De Geas signatur.

”Jag stannar”
Det har, ända sedan det blev klart att Ashley Young värvats, spekulerats en hel del om Nanis framtid i Manchester United. Milan & Real Madrid har visat ett intresse för portugisen, men har inte lagt något officiellt bud än. Nani är däremot fast besluten att stanna hos ligamästarna och visa alla att han är redo att slåss om en plats i startelvan.
"I don't want to talk about other players. But I can tell you one thing - I just think about me and not others. This is most important. If I am good, I do not have to be scared of anybody, that's the thing. Am I staying at United? Definitely? Yes.
[Last season] was my fourth year there. I [continue to] work with Sir Alex and, to tell you the truth, it's fantastic. I learn from the way he works because he has such a strong mentality and the discipline is very high. We have to do things perfectly - he likes [players to be] inch-perfect.
When I arrived, I was playing well but I didn't have enough discipline in my game, that was maybe why I didn't play most of the matches. Now I can say I'm okay with discipline and very good at the things Sir Alex likes. It's maybe why I'm one of the players he believes in more.
I was a bit surprised [about being left out of the startingeleven in the final against Barcelona]. But this is football. It's not me making the decision. The manager makes the decision and you have to respect it. He has his office and it's not just for football but if you have some problems and need some help, he will always help. I've been there with him to speak and he's a very good person. He gives confidence to the players and it's very important in the big games."
Sir Alex om framtiden och de svåra val han tvingats till över åren
"You can't get sentimental in this job. My job is to manage Manchester United. My job is to produce results. I'm not any different from anybody else. I need results here. I'll not be regarded here – and the club will not be regarded – in the same way if I was unsuccessful. And that's why if I see something on the football field that I feel is a retrograde step for the club I have to act.
And making decisions is what I've always been good at. I can make quick decisions. I've been lucky that way. Some people can't make a decision. But in management you have to be able to make decisions.
I love the players I've had. I've been very, very fortunate to have had great players. And I've been very fortunate to have had players come through with me for a long, long time.
At United, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes. Even Phil Neville and Nicky Butt, guys who were the spirit of the club. They have remained part of what I see is Manchester United. And all the players I've had here have played a part in that. But when I see something happening I have to act.
In the case of Nicky Butt and Phil Neville I had to release them because I was getting to the stage where I was terrified of talking to them. Telling them they were not playing a game. And it wasn't fair to them. They were good players. Players that played a big part in the resurrection of Manchester United, no doubt about that. So when the time came for me to let them go, I knew it was cutting strings. Loyal strings. And I didn't enjoy it."
Denis Irwin om framtidens mittbackspar och USA-turnén
United har säkerligen säkrat det framtida försvaret. Spelare som Rafael, Fabio, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling & Phil Jones kommer att ta ett stort ansvar under kommande år för att försäkra att titlarna fortsätter att ros i hamn. Denis Irwin, som var med och ledde United till stora triumfer på 90-talet, tror att Chris Smalling och nyförvärvet Phil Jones kommer att ta över ansvaret efter Ferdinand och Vidic på ett väldigt bra sätt.
“Ferdinand and Vidic are obviously United's first choice but Phil and Chris are a great pair to have in reserve.
I’ve seen quite a bit of Phil and he certainly looks to be a top player. He’s a big lad and you saw from watching him play for the U21s recently that’s he more than capable of holding his own. And he’s only going to get better playing at a club like this.
Chris had an excellent first season last year. He probably played a lot more games than he thought he would but he never let anyone down even in the big games. Not only is he strong in the air, he’s also got very good feet for a centre-half. Both he and Phil are big, strong lads with great talent.
It’s [the preseason-tour] the best time to get to know the lads and get used to the way United train and the way of life at this club because it’s different to anywhere else. It’ll also make them realise just how big this club is globally. Phil and Ashley will both be there and maybe even one or two other new signings. It’ll be a good time for them to get to know the manager and the players, and get a feel for what the club is all about.”
Denis Irwin har även lite att säga om New York Revolution, som United tar sig an i försäsongens match nr 1.
“They may not have made the best start to the MLS campaign, but I watched them train and they look like a very fit side. They’ll be in the middle of their season whereas this will be our first game so we might be a bit rusty.
It’ll be a good match to get us up and running, and I must say the Gillette Stadium is magnificent. Boston is a real a sporting city and everyone is looking forward to the game.
Of course, he [the coach] wants to beat United!. He was at Liverpool during a very successful period and won a number of trophies. He knows all about the rivalry and he still follows the Premier League very closely in the States because virtually every game is shown on TV. Playing against United is definitely a challenge he’s relishing.”
Kiko redo för England
Federico Macheda, som spenderade en del av förra säsongen på lån hos Sampdoria, ser fram emot att återvända till England, där han kan få fart på karriären igen.
"Psychologically it was not easy because to go from United to Sampdoria and to fight to avoid the drop was a difficult situation. I wanted to have an experience in Italy but now I want to remain in the Premier League. England is better suited for young players. I arrived in Genoa with great enthusiasm. The first few games the team and I did very well but after the defeat to Napoli, I did not find continuity."
