Nu är det bara seger som räknas efter lördagens fadäs, derby mot The Choirboys
Det gick inte alls som vi hade tänkt oss mot Middlesbrough I lördags, istället var det gästerna som gjorde en perfekt bortamatch och vann med 2-0. Boro är ett riktigt bogeyteam för oss, en poäng på de senaste nio mötena talar ett tydligt språk. Reading var aldrig riktigt inne I matchen, dålig markering på en frispark gav 0-1, 0-2 kom när en omarkerad bortaspelare fick på en bra träff från en position strax utanför straffområdet, Rafael var på bollen men kunde bara styra upp den I nättaket. Gästerna behövde inte göra mycket efter paus då Reading saknade idéer på hur de skulle bryta ner gästernas försvar. Pauno var inte nöjd efter matchen: "We didn't have a good performance, especially in the first half. We have to acknowledge that this was one of our worst games of the season. Some fatigue and a little bit of relaxation after a great result in Bristol are to blame. We didn't turn our engines on from the beginning - and that wasn't a fatigue problem, that was the mentality. The mentality wasn't right. We didn't impose our high tempo, we didn't start on the front foot - and that helped them find their momentum. At half-time, we went back to our basics, back to our structure. And in the second half the guys gave a good reaction, kept running and gave huge effort - and even though we didn't create great opportunities, we just needed one of them to end in the goal we were looking for and it would have got them off our necks and sent a clear message to them that we were looking to come back.”
Nu är det ett litet lokalderby på gång, The Royals åker den korta biten till Wycombe och nu är det bara seger som räknas. Fyra av de sex lagen ovanför strecket förlorade i lördags medan jagande Cardiff och Boro vann, klassik Championship omgång med andra ord. Reading är nu fem poäng före Cardiff och Boro, bakom dessa två ligger Stoke och Barnsley ytterligare en poäng efter. Tisdagens motståndare ligger på jumboplatsen och har 11 poäng upp till fast mark.
Det kommer förmodligen att göras någon ändring igen i startelvan, i lördags var det Esteves som fick börja på bänken när Laurent var tillbaka. Puscas fick återigen några minuter men han petar knappast Joao, enda chansen är om Pauno testar med två anfallare, annars blir det säkert ett inhopp som senast. Moore finns också som alternativ som mittback om någon av Morrison och McIntyre behöver vilas. Vi får helt enkelt vänta och se vad Pauno hittar på.
Hemmalaget Wycombe ligger sist, den position alla trodde att de skulle ligga på under säsongen och de får nog svårt att hänga kvar. Wycombe spelade 0-0 i lördags mot krysspecialisterna Millwall, senaste segern togs mot Huddersfield på bortaplan den 13/2. Man har vunnit två matcher på hemmaplan, förlorat nio och bara gjort nio mål. Readingbekantingar i laget är Jordan Obita och Garath McCleary som inte erbjöds kontrakt med The Royals inför säsongen, även Andre Burley och Uche Ikpeazu har varit i akademin i Reading. Scott Kashket är bäste målskytt med fyra mål före Jacobson och Ikpeazu på tre mål.
Pauno inför matchen: “It would have been a great game to have had our fans – but these are the times we are in. I am sure the fans will be vibrant and supporting the team from their homes – they will be with the team, as much as they can express it. We will feel their support at Wycombe, and we’ll look to deliver the best possible performance. It will be a war out there – we are ready for that. We know what’s coming, and we have to have our warriors ready for battle.“We have to remind ourselves that this is not an easy league… there will be tougher games ahead. All of that is coming. So we have to embrace and absorb any adversity and we always have to show our identity out there. In the second half against Middlesbrough, the identity was there and we were looking to score that goal. And the way we finished the game, that’s how we have to start the next one: showing our guts out there.”
