West Ham Supporter of the Month November 2007

It is a great pleasure that I have a guest as our presentation this month. We´ve had people from other countries before, but this is our first guest from Great Britain. You can really say that he follows West Ham by his heart. Some of us have also met him in Sweden. He often go to Sweden in the summer. He is also a friend of Harald Julander.

Name, town and Country and work

Nigel Kane - I live in Northern Ireland in a small village called Helens Bay which is about 15km from Belfast. I work in Police HQ in Belfast as a travel co-ordinator for Crime Operations Department.

Year as a West Ham supporter

I have been supporting West Ham since 1975 and remember watching us beat Fulham in the FA Cup Final that year.

Why I am a West Ham supporter

I have asked myself that many times especially during the bad times!
I believe I began supporting them because of their attractive style of football.

First live game with West Ham

My father took me to London by boat to Scotland and then bus to London to see us play Orient at Upton Park on 5th April 1979. We won 2-0 with a goal by Brooking and an own goal. I met many of the players before and after the game.

So many West Ham games has I seen live

I think I have seen 15 games, 13 at Upton Park and 2 friendlies in Sweden in July 2006. I will be at our game v Sunderland on 21st October and plan to go to the home game v Blackburn next March.

My best game with West Ham live or on telly

There are so many. Favorite live games were v Barnsley in April 1991 when we won 3-2 after being 2-0 down at half time to go top of Division 2. I also enjoyed beating Bolton 2-1 in the last game of the season in May 2002. We needed a win to finish 7th ahead of Spurs and with the score at 1-1 Ian Pearce scored in the last minute for a 2-1 victory. I also enjoyed the vital 2-0 win v Middlesbrough in March, which I believe WHFS also attended, as my sons and I saw Tevez score our second goal.
Best live games would be the Cup Final v Liverpool in 2006 (apart from the last minute of normal time and the penalties)! Beating Arsenal in the 1980 Cup Final and winning 1-0 away to Man Utd in the FA Cup when Di Canio scored.

First favorite West Ham player

Billy Bonds - he would have run through brick walls for the Hammers.

All time favorite West Ham player

Trevor Brooking - a gentleman who I have met on a few occaisions and a West Ham legend.

My biggest moment with West Ham

Staying up last season. I still don't know how we did it!

West Ham experience in the daily life

I am always checking their web site and reading the papers looking for articles about West Ham. I follow every game by listening to the radio as very few games are shown live here. That is why I love to go to Upton Park so much to be among thousands of fellow Hammers. Everybody at work knows I'm a West Ham supporter and it's nice not to support one of the 'big teams' such as Liverpool or Man Utd.
When we win life is wonderful but it spoils my weekend when we lose!

Best thing with West Ham

They are still a friendly club with the best supporters in the country and while we may not have won anything for a long time it's lovely when we beat Arsenal & Spurs etc.

Worst thing with West Ham (if you think there are any)

They are so unpredictable. When you expect them to win they normally lose.

My dream about West Ham or anything else you would like to tell us.

They are a big part of my life and I have 2 sons, Christopher & Richard, who are also supporters and have seen them 4 times. I will be taking them over next March again to see the Blackburn game. I hope we never have another season like last season as I don't think my heart could stand it and I hope we start buying players who don't get injured after 5 minutes!!

West Ham dream team and manager
Phil Parkes / Julian Dicks / Bobby Moore / Billy Bonds / Ray Stewart / Alan Devonshire / Trevor Brooking / Carlos Tevez / Paolo Di Canio / Geoff Hurst / Martin Peters - Manager Harry Redknapp

The team I know is totally unbalanced but we wouldn't have to worry as the opposition would never be able to get the ball of us and if they should they would have to get past Moore, Bonzo, Dicksy and Tonka!
