Pre-match-report Bohemians FC - Halmstads BK
A true Bohemian supporter writes an article for Svenska Fans and "Himlen är blå".
We on "Himlen är blå" ("The sky is blue") would like to gratefully thank Neil for generously sharing his thoughts on his team!
Bohemian FC won a league title this year for the first time in 23 years. The national cup was also added to complete a remarkable double which was only the clubs second in 110 years. Our first ever Champions League tie was against Levadia Maardu in Dalymount Park. A comfortable 3-0 win was secured against the backdrop of a string of petty complaints from our Estonian opposition.
Shaun Maher, our centre back, scored after 61 seconds to give us a perfect start. Shaun is a class player and has attracted a lot of interest from English clubs. The other two goals came from Glen Crowe. Glen scored 35 goals in all competitions last year including 25 league goals and 2 in Europe including the winner away to Kaiserslautern. Glen was in the National squad for the games against Portugal and Estonia in early June 2001.
The whole club is looking forward to the Halmstad match. Having tasted success, we the fans want more. We believe that we have the players to do it. Getting into the third qualifying round of the Champions League would be a huge achievement for Bohs.
Onto our players:
Our captain and central midfielder, Kevin Hunt, is the best player in the league. His all round game is superb and he is a true professional on and off the pitch. He can pass, tackle and is a true leader. When Kevin finds his range with his passing, the whole team feeds off him. Wayne Russell is one of the top keepers in the league. Tall and commanding, Wayne is a good shot stopper. This is his third season with Bohs and he has got better every week. Avery John is a Trinidad & Tobago international. A classy defender with bundles of pace and a very laid back attitude. Good in the air and on the ground. Avery is a strong lad with plenty of talent and his powers of recovery are awesome.
We have a pretty strong balanced squad with plenty of width provided by Mark Rutherford down the left and Paul Byrne (ex-Celtic) down the right. Stephen Caffrey is Kevin Hunt´s central midfield partner in our usual 4-4-2-system. Alex Nesovic is Glen Crowe´s strike-partner and he is a big, strong lad with plenty of ability and he never gives up. Other players who will catch the eye are Simon Webb at left back who loves to get forward and Fergal Harkin who will be sprung from the bench.
Bohs vs Halmstad will be a tight affair and there might only be a goal in it after 180 minutes. Hopefully the side which wins will be the side that deserves to win and that the game will be played in a good spirit.
