Silly spring season summary

Kalmar FF har under våren spelat i både dur och moll, både rent och vackert och falskt och fult.

Round 1 Gefle IF –KFF Strömvallen 1-1
Our hopes were high; our brave champions were going to win, it was as clear as a blue sky with no hint of a single little cloud, but instead of the clear blue sky of victory we got the dull rainy day of an even score.

Round 2 KFF-AIK Fredriksskans 0-1
The first game home at Fredriksskans and we all wanted to celebrate a victory, we needed a victory. They lost, we lost. The game wasn’t there, not even the team were there, there where only eleven men who happened to be in the same place at the same time. It was clear that something was wrong.

Round 3 IF Elfsborg Borås Arena 1-1
Somewhat under the wind, the team had to face one of this years favourites; IFE. And even if our golden boys didn’t win, the game was occasionally there, and the will to win, to fight, to give everything and then some more, was back. And it paid of, another even score, thanks to super-sub Mendes and suddenly we were able to breathe again.

Round 4 Halmstads BK Fredriksskans 0-1
We were sure that the feeling of winning streak from the last game would blossom and bloom like a beautiful rose in July and give us the first home victory. But instead it withered and died like a rose in the cold winter. The defeat was a fact and it was so hurtful, like a thorn driven into our hearts.

Round 5 Örebro SK Behrn Arena 2-1
Another hope crushed, another loss, another sad day, nothing to say, nothing to see, as if there was no line on the horizon. Was it going to be like this for the rest of the season? Nothing to hope for, nothing to be proud of, nothing but the vast emptiness of defeat.

Round 6 BK Häcken Fredriksskans 2-1
This was the game we had to win, another loss and the humiliation and shame would be impossible to bare. And because of one man, a man who hadn’t played a game in a year and a half, a man nobody had counted on to ever play a game again, the team could finally make a victory dance at Fredriksskans. He showed the way with his head, with his love for the game and with his never-ending will to win and to fight ‘till the bitter end. The comeback Tobias Carlsson made was even more astounding than the one Mickey Rourke made in The Wrestler.

Round 7 Hammarby IF Söderstadion 1-4
With the first victory’s sweet taste still in their mouths, the team crushed Hammarby IF at their favourite arena, Söderstadion. It was as if all the different parts of the team, the parts that never had connected before for more than a few minutes here and there, were suddenly put together wire to wire and a magnificent winning machine forced its way across the green field. And how we enjoyed it!

Round 8 Trelleborgs FF Fredriksskans 2-0
The winning streak continued and one of the ghosts from last autumn, Trelleborgs FF was vaporized by two new players, Daniel Mendes and Tobias Eriksson, Trelleborgs FF never had a chance. And despite the fact that the two of them are fresh and new in the team, it felt as if last year sent us postcards from far away telling us that everything was going to be the way it was before.

Round 9 IFK Göteborg Gamla Ullevi 2-1
The first of three games in a row against a team from the west coast, and yet another game against one of the top favourites of this year and as if it wasn’t enough, a game played at away ground at a brand new arena. And the king of Gamla Ullevi was Tobias Hysén. Our red and white team fought well, they never gave up and when Abiola Dauda was ignored by the IFK defence as if he was an unknown caller he took the chance and scored and the game became a nail-biter. But two beautiful goals by the king and a game both well and smartly played showed the way for this spring’s best team. And even if the game was lost out team made us fans proud.

Round 10 Örgryte IS Fredriksskans 1-0
The second game against west coast opposition, another game KFF had to win, everybody else had beaten Örgryte IS. And after a hard fight, according to Nanne the hardest game so far, the game was won, not in a beautiful or easy way, but it was enough to grant us peace, for the time being.

Round 11 GAIS Gamla Ullevi 2-2
The second game at Gamla Ullevi in a week, and the third team from the west, another unpredictable game to play, and the question was if the tight schedule was taking its toll on the players. And for 88 minutes it seemed so, GAIS had a comfortable lead but then our own super-sub, Daniel Mendes, served us a sweet dessert, in three minutes he evened the score. That is what I call a fairytale-ending!

Round 12 Helsingborgs IF Fredriksskans 2-0
Finally it was time for the last game of the spring; we expected hard opposition in form of Helsingborg IF and a lot to fight for. We who were in place at Fredriksskans enjoyed a perfect afternoon, the sun warmed us, the wind wasn’t chilly as usual, but foremost the team warmed us with their almost perfect game, a glorious victory and it felt like the kingdom of days.

Between the games the team also had time to participate in a wonderful fashion show. And some people may say (and they surely do!) that some team members are pure tabloid lovers and that all the single ladies are queuing for them, but the things they are willing to do for the team are amazing, we owe them a lot!

Whether they win or they lose, Kalmar FF is my team, my pride and joy, my sorrow and worry, in short, I’m addicted, hooked up, Kalmar FF has become my love, and love is my drug, I’m a hostage of love
