“I felt we did OK in the first half but in the second half we were terrific. We caught them cold. Winning a derby match is important. You want to please those people who pay your wages. Every derby is feisty and insults are thrown out and insults are thrown back. You have to make sure that you're not caught up in the occasion.”
Colchester ligger kvar på fjärde platsen i Coca-Cola League Oneefter vinsten mot Southend och The U's tog in poäng på andra placerade Charlton till fem poäng och Colchester har en match färre spelad.
“We're lost two in 20 and it's now three wins in a row now. It's also two wins out of two away from home but I also know that we can't get carried away - you're only two defeats away from a catastrophe. We have to make sure that we keep winning.”
“We have two games in three days and Kevin felt a little tweak in training.I had the opportunity to change things because we have some good strength in depth here and we have to try to keep the players fresh. Steven's fine - we took him off as a precaution. That was his first league start since I've been here and I'm sure there will be many more.”
