Great Scandinavian City players
Pertti Jantunen, borne 1952, Finnish international with 26 caps for his country. The blond midfielder was signed from Swedish side IFK Eskilstuna for £50 000 in March 1979. Before that he had a spell with Malaga. Due to stiff competition from some of the finest players the club ever has had Jantunens opportunities were limited and he only managed eight starts scoring one goal before returning back to IFK Eskilstuna in 1981.
Jan Möller, borne 1953, Swedish goalie who represented City 1980-1982. Möller got seventeen caps for his country and was also voted player of the year in 1979. He was signed from Malmö FF who he represented in The European Cup Final in 1979 loosing one nil to Nottingham Forest. The 6 feet 5 inches giant soon became very popular with the fans and is widely regarded as one of the clubs finest keepers ever. He made his City debut in a nil nil draw away to Chelsea.
Björn Kristensen, borne 1963, Danish defender/midfielder who made four appearances on loan from Newcastle in 1992. He went on to represent Portsmouth for two seasons before returning to his home country. Kristensen made twenty caps for Denmark scoring two goals. He also represented his country in the 1988 European Championship. At Newcastle he was nicknamed “Benny”.
Vegard Hansen, borne 1969, signed from Strömsgodset for £105 000. Played right wing back for City between 1994-1996 making 37 starts before returning back to Norwegian football. Vegard became popular with the City fans and is at the age of forty still playing professional football being playing manager for Mjöndalen IF in the Championship. Last season he picked himself on eight occasions.
Stig Johansen, a Norwegian striker borne in 1972, made three appearances on loan from Southampton making his debut coming on as a substitute against Gillingham at Ashton Gate on the 14th of February 1998. Three caps for Norway.
Sören B. Andersen, Danish international with caps 12 caps for his country. Borne in 1970. Andersen was sighed from Aalborg BK for £425 000 before the 1998/99 season. He made 39 appearances scoring ten goals among them two in his debut. Despite his good partnership with topscorer Ade Akinbiyi City was relegated and Andersen returned to Danish football. Due to chronically aching Achilles tendons he ended his career in March 2003.
Bo Andersen, Danish goalkeeper on our books for the 1998/99 relegation season. Andersen never made a single performance for City but I know Benny Lennartsson hade a very rough decision to choose between Andersen and Philips as his number one. At 34, the keeper is representing Brodd IL in Norwegian League 1.
Vegard Hansen - still going strong
