Reservlagsmatch Villa - Wolves

Dave Cooper ger oss en inblick av vad som hände från läktaren

Wolves Reserves 1 - Villa Reserves 3

As I was in the area visiting relatives I decided to take a trip to theNew Bucks Head (The home of Telford United) to see our reserves take on Wolves. I like Telford's ground, many new stadiums are a bit soulless but this one has been built with a bit of character. Villa lined up with Postma in goal, the excellent Danny Jackman at left back, Ryan Amoo at right back, Bewers and Cahill at centre half. Ulises DLC got a run out on the right wing, Dominic Foley played in the middle with Steven Davis and Cookie played absolutely everywhere! Up front Stefan Moore was partnered with Dubbers.

Wolves deservedly struck first after about ten minutes, Rae fired homefrom the edge of the box after a bit of a scramble. Villa then started to dominate proceedings. Both Foley and DLC went close before Cooke curled in a Beckhamesque type free-kick for the equaliser. The two sides then began to swap chances before Villa won another free-kick on the edge of the box. Thw Wolves defence were probably expecting another Cooke effort but instead Foley struck a sweet low drive with his left foot past our old friend Michael Oakes. 2-1 to Villa at half-time.

After the break the game continued to flow from end-to-end. Postma made a few excellent saves, Villa squandered several decent chances, I got the urge to sample some beer and went to the bar! I did return in time to see Villa seal the win though. A high ball into the box was excellently controlled on his chest by Dublin and he smashed the ball home from about ten yards. All in all a very good game.

Player by player:

Postma - Good, no chance for their goal and made several excellent saves, could still command his area better though. (8)

Amoo - OK, not Premiership standard yet though. (5)

Jackman - The next babby to make the first team? Neat and tidy, good passing, never shirked a tackle. Wrighty with hair. (8)

Cahill - Possibly at fault for their goal but did OK. (6)

Bewers - Good game. I would not worry unduly if injuries forced him into the first team. (7)

Davis - Fairly anonymous, need to stamp his authority on the game more. (6)

Foley - Another one who seems to have come on leaps and bounds recently. Great strike from the free-kick. (7)

DLC - Okay, but you expect a bit more from the senior figures in reserve games. Seemed unwilling to run at an inexperienced Wolves defence. (5)

Cooke - Excellent as ever. Tireless running, crisp passing and a superb free-kick. First team very soon I reckon. (9) MOTM

S.Moore - Worked hard and really should have had a couple of goals but I can't help feeling that he is slipping backwards from the promise he showed a couple of years ago. (6)

Dublin - Never stopped talking and encouraging the younger players. Didn't do a huge amount playing wise but then scored the type of goal that he has done throughout his career. He was also the only player to stay on the pitch signing autographs after the match. (7)

Dave Cooper - Started well but the lure of the bar meant another early exit for the fat one. (4)
