Magisk vändning borta mot Hammers

Manchester United vände och vann (som vanligt) borta mot West Ham, efter att ha legat under med 2-0. Stor matchhjälte blev Wayne Rooney med sitt hat-trick, och Hernandéz kunde sedan, tämligen enkelt, avgöra matchen med 2-4. Kommentarer efter matchen:

Sir Alex: "I think we played like champions today. We kept our heads up, we didn't lose faith in our ability and it was a great boost to us in that respect. It's not an easy place to come to, and they're fighting relegation, but we dominated that second half and it was a real championship performance as far as I'm concerned.

Arsenal have got the games in hand, of course. It could go to goal difference, but somehow I don't think so. We have to win our games, but that was a great boost to us to get that result. We've four home games, three away and the important thing for the players is that they go and play.

Valencia had them on toast really. He's so confident on the ball and they couldn't get the ball off him, so we were always going to get in that position where Valencia had possession on the edge of the box. In the first half he delivered two or three fantastic balls in, but we just didn't get enough on the end of them to capitalise.

In the second half, when Chicharito came on, he gives you that lightning pace and he's threatening all the time behind them, so it meant they were going right back towards their box and that left us a lot of space to operate.

I have to say, being two goals behind at half-time was a travesty in terms of our possession of the ball and the chances we created. They probably only had two shots at goal. But when you're two goals down at half-time, you're under the kosh in that respect, and we had to go for it. Going for it is important for us."

Rooney: "I thought the first one was important but I was delighted to score the goal that put us in front was great because I knew then we'd go on and win the game.

I'd been working all week with Greeny (Robert Green) on penalties so I was a bit unsure what to do. But I stuck to what I'd been doing all week and maybe Greeny thought I was going to change it because thankfully I sent him the wrong way and got the goal.

I think the substitutions were good ones and they won the game for us. Chicharito is a massive threat and then Berbatov came on - although he didn't get a goal, he was fantastic for us. He held the ball up brilliant and allowed the runners to run off him.

Upton Park is a difficult place to come but we took encouragement from the first half when we got ourselves into good areas. We didn't take our chances then. But we knew if we got the next goal we were capable of getting more and thankfully that was the case."

Giggs: "We don't give up. No matter what the score in the game, we keep going.

He (Sir Alex) was calm. We'd played some good stuff in the first half. We just gave silly goals away. We were getting into good areas but the final ball wasn't good enough. We just needed to concentrate more in the final third. We felt if we kept creating chances and got a goal back we could go on and win it.

I thought today we were brilliant all over the park. But even when we've not been playing well we've been grinding out results. Hopefully now with seven games to go we can keep doing that."


Rooney ber om ursäkt

Wayne Rooney var i händelsernas centrum på Upton Park. Inte bara för sitt hat-trick, men också för att han svor framför tv-kameran efter sitt straffmål (2-3). "What, f*cking what?", ska han ha sagt, och det är fortfarande ovisst ifall FA kommer att agera. Rooney bad hur som helst om ursäkt, så här sa han:

"I want to apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my goal celebration, especially any parents or children that were watching. 

Emotions were running high and on reflection my heat-of-the-moment reaction was inappropriate. It was not aimed at anyone in particular."

Rooney: 

Manchester United legendaren Gary Neville, som la skorna på hyllan för inte så länge sedan, uppmanar Paul Scholes & Ryan Giggs att fortsätta ett tag till.

"I speak to Ryan and Paul all the time. I trust them and we've become incredibly close. And I am the one who keeps begging them to go for at least one more year. They are still two of the best players around. They are both key men for the team and are on a different level to anybody else in the game."
