“Hello to all the supporters over there. I mentioned them today again because they’ve been fantastic for my career. I wouldn’t have been playing up to 39 if I hadn’t enjoyed their experience over there.”

Om sin sista match, då han gjorde Cagliaris båda mål mot Juventus:

“It was very good, it was the right way to stop,” he said. “But it wasn’t that, it was just that I came back to Cagliari to give help for them to achieve what they wanted to achieve and we succeeded in doing that. My body’s okay, I’m fit, it’s nothing down to my body. I could have played more if I wanted. It’s just that you think in your head it’s time to stop and do something else.”

Om framtiden:

“I’m just taking a couple of months off to rest a little and then I will start from scratch again from the youth team.”, sade han skämtsamt, innan han fortsatte: “Just rest, I just need to get back to normality. When I’m going to be a normal person again I’ll think about my future. You’ll see me a lot, you’ll be saying come on get out of here Franco. London is part of me.”

Chelseas vd Peter Kenyon passade också på att tacka en av Chelseas största profiler:

”Gianfranco Zola is a true Chelsea Football Club legend, considered by most fans to be the club's greatest all-time player. He provided us with so many special moments and was a true gentleman on and off the pitch. On behalf of everyone at the club I'd like to wish Franco a happy retirement and we all hope to see him again soon in London to commemorate Chelsea's 100 year history and to thank him again for his unforgettable contribution.”
