CFC:s magiska kväll: Betyg från pressen

Joe Cole och Petr Cech. Det var två av Chelseas stjärnor i går kväll. Här är spelarbetygen från en morgontidning och en tabloid:

The Guardian:

Petr Cech: 8
Could not be faulted for Barca's goals and made four good saves, including from Puyol, to prevent further damage. Sound on crosses.

Paulo Ferreira: 6
Tried to stay tight on Ronaldinho on the right and did pretty well but conceded the penalty. Substituted.

John Terry: 6
Not his best game defensively but got the decisive goal. Found it hard sometimes to cope with Barcelona's movement.

Ricardo Carvalho: 7
Some fine interventions, including a last-ditch tackle in the box on Eto'o, outweighed a handful of errors.

William Gallas: 6
Rarely beaten and made a good interception but distribution can be poor with his left foot. Rarely came forward.

Claude Makelele: 6
Tireless and made some good interceptions but could not provide a proper shield in difficult circumstances.

Joe Cole: 8
Strong, disciplined and effective. Showed good skill and doggedness on the right, setting up two goals and hitting a post.

Frank Lampard: 8
A constant source of aggression and attacking menace. His tackle prompted Chelsea's first and he scored their second.

Damien Duff: 6
Not a prominent attacking figure, but scored Chelsea's third goal and his corner led to the fourth. Worked hard.

Mateja Kezman: 6
Began explosively, crossing for the first goal and helping in the third with a nice lay-off. But later starved of ball.

Eidur Gudjohnsen: 6
Started excellently, scoring the opening goal and both prompting and helping defensively from deep, but faded.

Substitutes
Glen Johnson: (Ferreira, 51). Made a couple of mistakes but nothing costly. Booked. 6
Robert Huth: (Duff, 86)
Tiago: (Gudjohnsen, 79)

The Sun:
CECH
DREAM TEAM STAR MAN. Superb saves from Eto'o, Deco and Puyol and he very nearly got to Ronaldinho's penalty. 9

FERRIRA
HANDED the initiative back to Barca when he conceded a 25th-minute penalty and could not get near Ronaldinho all night. Booked. 5

TERRY
DID everything in his power to halt the Barcelona fightback - and scored the all-important winner with a towering header. 8

CARVALHO
TRIED to get physical with Ronaldinho but just bounced off the world player of the year. Tackle of the season to stop Eto'o in full flight. 7

GALLAS
LIKE the rest of Chelsea's back four, he never really came to terms with the Spaniards' movement and speed of thought. 6

MAKELELE
RATTLED Barca early on with some full-blooded challenges but gave away far too many free-kicks in dangerous territory. 6

COLE
FANTASTIC all-round show to set up Chelsea's second and third goals and was desperately unlucky when his shot hit a post just before the break. 9

LAMPARD
VOLLEYED great early chance over but came up with the perfect response when he netted from close range four minutes later. 7

DUFF
NEVER any doubt that he was going to tuck his goal away when sent clear and celebrated like a man who had just proved a point. 6

KEZMAN
THE shock selection soon justified his selection with a devastating burst of pace and cross for the crucial first goal. Booked. 6

GUDJOHNSEN
TREMENDOUS finish under pressure to open the floodgates and put the Blues in early control. Always a threat to the Barca defence. 7

Subs: Huth 5, Johnson 6, Tiago 5.
