Gästkrönika: Is it time for a change?

Gullseye skribenten Fred Reckles, bjuder i detta gästspel på sin syn, rörande vårsäsongen och framtiden i Brighton.

Our season now rests on three Saturdays in January. Will it be mid table layabouts or will we be competing for one of those automatic spots?

Well on Saturdays performance I would say the latter. We have so much to sort out to beat a classy QPR - the Yorkshire grit of Barnsley and a very motivated and gelled team from Plymouth. Yes - two are at home but Withdean is far from the fortress it has been this season - with empty seats all over showing this to be evident.

Is it lethargy from the supporters? No - it's the players which have just stopped competing in key areas and the bond is far from there - which is evident from recent matches with arguments on the pitch. As a supporter I am dismayed but still go when I can. Some, however, have more sense than to dish out that much money for a shower of shit.

Lets think back to the time we lead the league by 4 points. So what's changed? Coppell gone but not forgotten. I think that McGee is struggling to get the true potential out of the Albion in all ways and the style of football - well - lets just say my local side in sunny Lincs keeps it on the floor longer. And the guts to grind out the result gone from earlier this season.

Mr McGhee however does have a problem. Yea he is not as good as Coppell on motivation - but if we do go up we have an aging team who would be shown for there inability's in the first. Maybe its time to change let McGhee sell some and buy some to build a class side which will be in the first in no more than two seasons. He has already shown faith in the young seagulls which is paying off. Lets build a side around the likes of Knight, McPhee, with some shrewd buys of older players, and the true grit of the long time servers such as Cullip and Carpenter.

Come on Seagull fans - lets give McGhee a season of building next season and see. We have had great success and now we expect it to continue - but I would like to see us go up and stay up rather than the yoyo team which we have been in the past.

Lets shake the tree and get rid of all we feel we don't need. There are players in there that the club carry - no names - you all know. I may be wrong but lets see how the three weeks go and then if it goes wrong Knight, let McGhee ring the changes. Lets get some different blood in.
