Questions to Dave
Dave, vår man på plats, har fått några frågor från redaktionen och här kommer en redovisning av dessa.
1) Have you had a nice summer Dave?
Yeh, OK. Shame about the weather though.
2) A new season is here, your thoughts:
Who would of thought that this time last year we would be now thinking about our second season in the premiership after finishing a comfortable twelfth? The 2008/09 campaign was something special. The players performed way above our expectations and the intimidating atmosphere at The Brit was fantastic and had a massive influence on our success.
The question is now, "Can we repeat it?".
I think Stoke will adapt the same style of play as last year. At the moment we have no option given the lack of signings. Of course this time teams will know a little of what to expect which may work against us. Complacency could effect the management, the team and the supporters as we will no longer be seen as the new boys. Therefore, everyone involved with the club will have to adopt the same commitment and attitude as last year or else we could be in trouble.
Personally, I think that we will lose more home games but pick up more points away from home. We do have a tough run in this season so we need to pick up points steadily throughout the campaign. Early wins against Burnley & Birmingham would be a great way to start.
3) We need new and better players. Why do you think it's so difficult for Stoke to get them?
Like all of supporters I had anticipated a couple of "quality" signings that would of added some class to our play such as a decent creative midfield player to begin with. As we all know this hasn't happened and its frustrating. As supporters we are left to speculate as to why we have struggled to attract these type of players. It doesn't appear to be the cost although it could be the wages which could then disrupt the wage structure of the club.
Obviously, quality players will be able to pick and choose which club to join and Stoke may not be top of their list (for now at least). Although it looks like we are going to start with the same squad as last year (plus Whitehead). I expect Stoke to do some business before the close of the window.
4) What do you think about davesviews "New signing-thread" on the Oatcake messageboard?
Love it or hate it "davesviews New signing-thread" has kept Stoke supporters occupied during the summer. I believe that he has some contact within the club but I've no idea what. If he is involved with the club, I do find it hard to believe that the club itself have allowed this to happen and haven't put an end to it a long time ago. I think that he could of done it a little differently. For example, to of given a summary everynight instead of the Q & A which just led to supporter frustration. I admit that I am addicted though.
5) Who do you think is our "key-player"?
Same as last year....Abdoulaye Faye.
6) Do you think there will be the same atmosphere on the Brit this season?
I really hope so as it was superb and helped the team immensely. I think the supporters will rise up to the challenge once again.
7) Do you think we can do it again, stay in the Premier League?
Yes we can but like I said we all must put in the same effort as last year. People talk about "the second season syndrome" but only 5 teams have been relegated in their second season since the premiership was formed. Come on Stoke!!!!!!!
8) At last and most important: Are you giving us some reports this season?
Yeh, if you want me to.
