Little som manager
Brian Little

1. COLIN WITHERS was in goal when I was first taken by my dad to Villa Park and he was such an imposing figure as I watched him from the front of the Holte End. He made a big impression on me.

2. JOHN GIDMAN offered an extra dimension to the team when he went forward and despite the fact he was a full-back, he was a very exciting player. The only time I saw him struggle was when he was playing against Forest's John Robertson - now Villa's assistant manager!

3. CHARLIE AITKEN is my left-back because he was a Villa man through and through. He still is, in fact. To make so many apperances for the club just showed tremendous loyalty - or maybe it was just that no other clubs fancied him!

4. CHRIS NICHOL was a great leader and a solid defender, as well as being very useful at set pieces. He scored some incredibly long-range goals, too, including on in the 1977 League Cup final against Everton at Old Trafford.

5. PAUL McGRATH is the one playter I've included who wasn't a boyhood favourite of mine - for obvious reasons. He was a footballing defender and I'm just glad that when we were on opposite sides at his first club Manchester United, he was in midfield!

6. BRUCE RIOCH wasn't at the club very long but he was a great midfielder who scored some eye-catching goals. I was gutted when he left.

7. RAY GRAYDON set up plenty of goals from his right-wing position - and also scored a fair few as well. He was the sort of player who could create openings from all areas of the pitch.

8. FRANK CARRODUS gets my vote in midfield alongside Rioch because he was the sort of player every team needed. He did the donkey work - very much like Des Bremner in our Championship and European Cup-winning team.

9. KEITH LEONARD isn't one of the biggest names in Villa's history but he could have achieved greatness if he career hadn't been cut short by injury. Later on, he was my youth team coach.

10. BRIAN LITTLE gets the nod alongside Keith up front. As a spectator, I never saw a more gifted footballer. He had a wounderful balance and passing ability and was a player who could always make things happen on the pitch.

11. WILLE ANDERSON joined us from Manchester United and effectively became our George Best. I'll never forget his performance when we beat Wrexham 4-3 in a League Cup second replay at the Hawthorns in 1971.
