Villa - Newcastle 3-1 Reserver. Rapport från läktaren

Reserverna leder sin liga med 11p Här följer en matchrapport från Graham i Brum.

Superb game with something for everyone, chances, goals, good saves and an excellent punch-up!

After an edgy start it was Toon who took the lead, some stripey bastard heading home from a corner after about five minutes. But we weren't behind for long, Moore Minor won a free kick twenty yards out and The Moose despatched it superbly into the roof of the net.

A couple of minutes later he nearly did it again but this time it was deflected just wide.

Then came the Foley / Moore show. After 20 minutes Foley delivered a superb through ball (remember them?) to put Luke clear but the Toon keeper denied him. Two minutes later Foley did exactly the same and this time Moore slotted the ball home with ease. 2-1 and cruising.

Newcastle tried to get back and Postma made a couple of good saves from Cort and someone else in a stripey shirt. Cort also put one wide.

Villa then took control again. The impressive Foley just missed from a free kick before Peter Hynes scored our third with a shot from the edge of the area.

We continued to dominate in the second half although the chances were fewer. Moore was always a threat and Hadji and Hynes also had chances.

Then came the punch-up. It was handbags really between Kinsella and Andy Griffin (I think) but both were sent off.

Hadji then produced a wonderful length of the field run a la Dalian at Wimbledon but he just failed to beat the Newcastle keeper, he also hit the bar late on. I don't suppose O'Leary was here to see his ignored winger though eh?

A couple of notable things:
Hadji was brilliant, I know it's only the reserves but after the last two "displays" by the first team he must be worth a shot??

We usually really miss Cooke but this time Foley raised his game.

Peter Hynes gets better by the game.

We were so solid in defence that you hardly noticed them, often a good sign I think.

Kinsella punches like a girl.
